The four-semester Master's program in Engineering Informatics not only continues the Bachelor's program in Engineering Informatics, but is also designed for good compatibility with related Bachelor degree courses .
You will learn about a cross-section of technologies, from the hardware-level (embedded systems, sensors, and actuators) through their networking to signal processing, computer vision, and artificial intelligence, and will be able to use these technologies confidently. Such heterogeneous, networked systems form the basis for Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things, autonomous driving, and much more, often in conjunction with cloud solutions. In addition to broad specialist knowledge, strategic and planning skills will also be taught. While mechanical and electrical engineers used to develop products, today there is an increasing need for computer engineers to implement the growing functionality of technical products through software solutions.
Studies
Study content
The program offers a high degree of individual flexibility. Students can choose from a pool of courses in each of the three core areas: General Computer Science, Practical and Theoretical Computer Engineering, and Economics, as well as in key skills. In the project, students integrate the knowledge gained in the individual courses into a cohesive whole and demonstrate how they can apply their acquired knowledge in a scientifically sound and practical context. Beyond factual knowledge, they demonstrate social skills within a project team, as well as organizational and motivational abilities. The project forms the basis for the master's thesis in the final semester.
Study program
The courses listed below are intended as an example of a typical course of study. Courses in the Elective pools can easily be taken in a different order or arrangement. The numbers indicate for each semester how many hours per week or how many credit points are allocated to the respective subject.

Our laboratories - practical training
Smart Factory Lab:
Intelligent manufacturing in the Smart Factory aims to optimize production processes based on information technology. Cyber-physical systems and the Internet of Things (IoT) connect workplaces and production lines with server- or cloud-based applications to optimize, for example, maintenance cycles using big data tools.
The Smart Factory Lab (SFL) addresses tasks within this context, with a focus on the human element. For example, prototypes of worker assistance systems are developed and tested. Human-robot collaboration is a key component of the digital transformation of production. In addition to a traditional industrial robot, the Smart Factory Lab utilizes several collaborative and lightweight robots. These advanced manufacturing techniques can be taught and applied in R&D projects using a variety of 3D printers and gantry milling machines.
Computer Vision Lab:
In the Computer Vision Lab, research and teaching in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Mobile Robotics and Autonomous Driving, as well as 3D Image Acquisition and Simulation, come together.
The laboratory has 10 fully equipped workstations. The equipment includes state-of-the-art 2D and 3D image acquisition systems. In addition to a comprehensive range of standard image processing cameras and associated lenses, depth cameras and other high-quality systems, such as an Artec EVA-M 3D scanner, are available. For projects and teaching in the fields of artificial intelligence, deep learning, and 3D simulation, two high-performance computing servers have been installed. These servers enable realistic simulation environments for testing driver assistance systems and autonomous vehicles, as well as efficient training of artificial neural networks.
Embedded Systems Lab:
Here, everything revolves around the development and programming of computer systems embedded in devices and machines. Complex systems are controlled by combining hardware and software. In the various courses, you will learn how to program microcontrollers, evaluate sensor data using digital signal processing, and precisely control and regulate motors and actuators with the help of real-time systems. The recently modernized lab is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for the design, construction, and evaluation of embedded systems. Development and testing environments for commercially available microcontrollers are provided. Fully equipped assembly, soldering, and measurement stations are available for the development and testing of electronic and hardware components, where newly designed systems are built and evaluated. Here, you will put your knowledge and ideas into practice in exciting projects, some of which are based on current research.
