In an increasingly complex and dynamic world, mathematics plays a central role in sustainable development. As an interface between theoretical modeling and practical application, it enables us to understand complex relationships and make data-driven decisions.

Specific applications include modeling climate risks in loan portfolios and analyzing default probabilities using logistic regression and machine learning. The combination of mathematical methods and artificial intelligence opens up new possibilities for quantifying sustainability risks and integrating them into existing risk models.

This combination of scientific depth and practical relevance is also reflected in this Master's program, which specifically prepares students for the challenges at the interface of sustainability, business and data science – be it for a career in business or a scientific career through doctoral studies.

Studies

This degree program combines academic rigor with strong practical relevance. Core modules such as measure and integration theory, time series analysis, and management skills form the foundation, supplemented by Elective courses from various specialization areas. You decide whether to specialize or maintain a broad perspective. A doctorate is also an option with this degree. Here, you will acquire the key skills to actively shape the future.

The following is a list of the courses offered in the degree program, indicating whether each course is a required module (P) or Elective module (WP). The numbers indicate the weekly workload (SWS) or the credit points (CrP) awarded for successful completion of the course.

Study options

The Master's program in Mathematics for Sustainability, Economics and Data Science is offered in both German and English language versions.

Admission to the English-language study program requires proof of a first professional university degree with an overall grade of at least "good" (2.0 or at least 80 percentage points according to § 9 para. 2 part I of the examination regulations) and sufficient English language skills at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

A corresponding note will be included in the graduation documents if all compulsory and Elective modules – with the exception of a maximum of four Elective modules – were completed in English. Switching between the different study program variants is only possible if the respective prerequisites are met and no modules have yet been passed in the other language.

Further details can be found in the examination regulations .
