The Master's program in Mechanical Engineering offers you a future-oriented qualification that provides career prospects in the field of research and development and the assumption of project management and leadership tasks.
Mechanical engineering, as a supplier of complex, innovative, technical products, is of great importance to all sectors of the economy and significantly determines Germany's economic performance. From the fundamentals of materials science to the simulation-based development of sophisticated components and technical systems using state-of-the-art materials, and on to the corresponding manufacturing technologies, the demands on scientific and methodological qualifications are constantly increasing.
The Master's program in Mechanical Engineering offers you the opportunity to delve deeper into topics such as design and production, the fundamentals of vehicle development, measurement and automation technology, or calculation and simulation . Aspects such as project work and economic analysis are, of course, also taken into account.
Studies
Study content
The Master's program builds consecutively on a completed professionally qualifying Bachelor's degree (min. 7 semesters or 210 credit points (CrP) in the field of mechanical engineering or a comparable engineering degree; for 6-semester Degree Courses , the program is possible after additional proof of prior knowledge corresponding to 210 CrP).
The introductory modules Mathematical Methods and Physical Properties of Technical Materials are compulsory for all students. Likewise, the completion of a project worth 5 credit points is mandatory for every student. The Master's program culminates in the writing of the Master's thesis and a colloquium. Furthermore, the Master's program is modular and flexible, allowing for individual specialization.
Focus
It is possible to specialize in the following areas:
- Design and Production (AMB)
- Fundamentals of Vehicle Development (FST)
- Measurement and Automation Technology (MAT)
- Mechanics and Simulation (MES)
Study program
The following is a list of the courses offered in the degree program. The numbers indicate the weekly contact hours (SWS) or the credit points you will receive for successful completion of the course.
In the first two semesters you will choose your specialization and select Elective subjects.
The completion of the Master's thesis (usually in a company) and the defense of this work in the final scientific colloquium mark the end of the studies.

Key areas
Main modules
A focus is placed on the following areas:
- Design and Production (AMB)
- Fundamentals of Vehicle Development (FST)
- Measurement and Automation Technology (MAT)
- Mechanics and Simulation (MES)
possible, which can be entered on the master's certificate upon request.
For such a specialization, depending on the chosen specialization, two modules from the specialization module pool must be taken, and the subsequently chosen topics of the project work and master's thesis must correspond thematically to the respective specialization.

If no specialization is desired, two modules from this pool of specialization modules must be taken.
Technical Elective module
In addition to the respective core modules, six technical Elective modules must be selected from the technical Elective module pool. Any unused modules from the core module pool can be chosen as technical Elective courses. A well-structured "recommendation list" provides a guide for selecting sensible module combinations for the desired specialization.
Furthermore, the professors of the ME and EI Department can be approached as mentors to receive support and advice for putting together an individually tailored module combination.
