The Master programme offers a thorough and practice-oriented understanding of optical systems. Taught entirely in English, it provides students with deep insight into the structure and operation of individual components, their interaction within complex assemblies, and the process of designing complete system layouts based on specific performance requirements.
About the programme
Programme content
The Master program in Optical System Engineering builds consecutively on a completed, professionally qualifying Bachelor's degree (minimum of seven semesters or 210 credit points) in Physical Engineering , Applied Physics , or a comparable field of engineering.
The curriculum consists of six compulsory modules that provide comprehensive knowledge for understanding and designing optical systems. The programme concludes with the completion of a Master's thesis and a final colloquium.

Curriculum

Perspectives
The Master program qualifies graduates for scientific research, strategic and leadership positions, and provides a solid foundation for pursuing a PhD. In addition, students obtain the professional qualifications required under the Engineering Chamber Act. Graduates may pursue careers in engineering offices, public authorities, research institutes, and industrial companies, or work as independent consultants.

| Admission requirements | (1) Applicants must hold a completed Bachelor's or Diploma with 210 ECTS degree in a related field of study with a final grade better than 2.5 . Applicants with a grade lower than 2.5 are required to pass an oral aptitude assessment. (2) Proof of sufficient English language proficiency at level B2 and German language proficiency at level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is required. This can typically be demonstrated by the Cambridge First Certificate, TOEFL, TOEIC, or IELTS. The admissions committee decides on the recognition of language certificates.
