The Master's program in Public Health focuses on the competencies required for analyzing the social, political, and health-related development of the population, as well as for designing and evaluating new models of healthcare provision. The primary goal is the analysis and improvement of healthcare provision and, consequently, population health. The program offers the opportunity to specialize in either healthcare research or rehabilitation.
The program builds upon a completed Bachelor's or Diploma degree in Medical Management or a related health-related field. The Master's degree qualifies graduates for scientific research and for assuming strategic and leadership roles in the healthcare sector.
Studies
Study content
The Master's program in Public Health focuses on the meta-level of the healthcare sector and imparts the relevant methodological and professional competencies from the core areas of public health research defined by the World Health Organization (WHO). The program also addresses the previously under-researched but increasingly important sector of rehabilitation due to demographic change and places particular emphasis on health services research. This potential focus clearly distinguishes this program from similar Degree Courses .
They will be empowered to analyze changing social circumstances within a population, as well as environmental factors and their impact on individuals' health and ability to work, and to draw conclusions from these analyses, defining and implementing resulting new requirements for the healthcare system and policy. Students can analyze health data and, for example, identify widespread diseases or analyze the spread of epidemics, ideally preventing them through appropriate strategies.
By integrating various disciplines such as healthcare research, rehabilitation research, social and environmental medicine, digital technologies and communication, and by strengthening your social skills, you will be optimally prepared for the diverse tasks in research and practice.
The M.Sc. in Public Health allows students to study independently and individually according to their personal interests. This is achieved, among other things, through the freedom of choice offered by the Elective modules.
Hybrid teaching concept
(1) The Master's program in Public Health uses a hybrid teaching concept. This includes a combination of online and in-person teaching as well as digital learning elements and formats.
The Department defines online teaching as virtual courses that are conducted live according to the regular timetable via the videoconferencing system described in paragraph 3.
(2) The courses in the Master's program in Public Health at the Department Health and Social Sciences (GES) are offered both online and in person. The required modules generally take place on three fixed days per week in person and on one fixed day per week online. Depending on the chosen Elective modules, there may be an additional day of in-person or online instruction. The schedule of days will be communicated to students in a timely and appropriate manner at the beginning of each semester. Modules can be offered entirely in person or online, or a combination of both formats, taking into account the fixed online and in-person days. Courses will be held at the scheduled time (live according to the regular timetable) in both formats.
(3) Students will be informed in a timely and appropriate manner before the start of the course about which video conferencing system will be used for the virtual courses and what usage options (e.g., privacy protection) this video conferencing system offers students. The virtual courses will be conducted using a camera and microphone.
(4) Students who do not have suitable hardware (PC, laptop, tablet, smartphone) with a camera or microphone to participate in courses held as video conferences may, if necessary, use PC workstations at the Department . Special configurations for individual computers must be ensured in cases of personal disabilities.
