The aim and motto of the Bachelor's degree program in Real Estate and Facility Management is to identify and establish connections between technical and business aspects related to real estate. Students in this program work at the interface between technical and economic issues, and thus on tasks that can be described as management tasks.

Studies

The degree program for industrial engineers combines content from the disciplines of engineering and business administration, with a focus on real estate. At the same time, students are taught content that links these two disciplines (so-called integrative modules).

The degree program is very practically oriented: Theoretical content from the lectures is directly applied in laboratories and through case studies. A practical phase followed by a bachelor's thesis also facilitates the students' transition into the professional world.

Graduates of the Real Estate and Facility Management program are able to:

  • They are able to grasp and explain complex issues based on engineering and economic principles. They have acquired a clear understanding and broad knowledge of the building life cycle and real estate and facility management.
  • To understand, explain and assess complex issues concerning technical, ecological and economic building stocks and building portfolios on an engineering and economic basis, and to develop independent new ideas and concepts in a solution-oriented manner.
  • They communicate professionally, collaborate in interdisciplinary teams, and incorporate diverse perspectives. They are aware of organizational psychology principles and can understand and interpret them.
  • They assess and evaluate the interrelationships between technical and socioeconomic problems. They can establish the connections between these interactions and use these skills to develop solutions. They understand the framework and scope of their professional actions and reflect on their decisions.

The following is a list of courses. The numbers indicate for each semester how many hours per week or how many credit points are allocated to the respective subject. A total of 210 credit points must be earned.

Basic modules for all specializations

Students only have to make a binding decision for one of the two specializations from the second semester onwards.

Key areas

Facility management is considered a strategic management discipline of the future. It deals with the optimization of secondary processes, with a particular focus on real estate. This specialization involves solving engineering, economic, and legal problems related to real estate and other secondary processes. The program fosters students' teamwork and leadership skills. It is an interdisciplinary and holistic study concept.

The program aims to provide a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach that addresses engineering, economic, and legal challenges in building management. In addition to a solid technical and business education, the program places great emphasis on teamwork and leadership skills. Specializations, such as plant operation or the management of public buildings, are possible. Graduates of the Real Estate and Facility Management program with a focus on Facility Management are qualified to:

  • Develop and implement strategies for building management,
  • Manage real estate using appropriate controlling instruments,
  • develop interdisciplinary solutions for optimizing secondary processes,
  • make a positive contribution to the entire value chain,
  • to map and optimize facility processes within the building life cycle using suitable simulation programs.

The following is a list of the specific courses offered within this specialization.

Technical asset managers assist in optimizing real estate portfolios and ensure that assets are diversified across different risk and asset classes. They are able to assess properties and evaluate the suitability of a property's intended use. Graduates of this program analyze, for example, macroeconomic relationships and apply the findings to a building portfolio, considering both return and risk.

They develop investment and divestment strategies for building portfolios, formulate investor strategies, and implement them using appropriate sub-goals. In short: They reconcile economic, technical, and legal aspects.

The study objective of the Technical Asset Management specialization is to support the optimization of real estate portfolios and ensure that assets are diversified across different risk and asset classes. Technical Asset Management assists in the composition of real estate portfolios. Furthermore, it enables graduates to value properties and assess the suitability of a property's usage concept. Graduates of the Real Estate and Facility Management program with a specialization in Technical Asset Management are qualified to:

  • Analyze macroeconomic relationships and apply them to a building portfolio from a return and risk perspective,
  • Develop investment and divestment strategies for building portfolios,
  • Formulate the investor's strategies and implement them using suitable sub-goals,
  • classifying a building portfolio from a risk perspective,
  • to reconcile economic, ecological, technical and legal issues.

Special features

The Learning Property aims to provide students with greater practical experience and to highlight the interdisciplinary nature and thematic connections within the degree program. Using various objects on-site, students will develop their subject-specific and methodological skills, as well as their social and self-management skills. Within these competency areas, they will learn to organize and design, formulate and present, illustrate and calculate, analyze and critique, and examine and decide. These objects will also be accessible via VR through our VR Lab, allowing students to explore them within their studies even outside of field trips. The Learning Property is not designated as a separate module but serves as a practical bridge between our university of applied sciences and the professional world for students, instructors, and cooperation partners. We are delighted to be collaborating with Eberbach Monastery on this project.

Career prospects

The main areas of focus for facility management lie in the provision of suitable spaces as well as their optimization and management, in the provision and securing of infrastructure systems, the development of efficient management concepts and the guarantee of the use of efficient information and communication technologies.

The main areas of application for the focus on Technical Asset Management are in the real estate industry in the areas of real estate fund management, project management, as well as real estate financing, development, administration and marketing.

Study options

The dual study program (is+i) aims to impart the necessary competencies to students and to provide academic support for the transfer of knowledge acquired at the university into professional practice. Through dual practical phases planned jointly with the cooperation partner of the dual study program (is+i), students are to be exceptionally well prepared, both professionally and personally, for their future careers. During the lecture period, students attend the modules of the degree program according to the examination regulations. During the semester breaks, they complete part of their independent study at the cooperation partner's company. This allows them to directly transfer the content learned at the university into practical application within the cooperation partner's company.

We therefore offer

  • a demanding and future-proof education
  • basic financial security for the entire duration of studies
  • a secure first step into professional life
  • Through preliminary bridging courses, a study-accompanying tutoring and mentoring program, and a reduction in the density of exams, good conditions are created for above-average academic success.

You can find all further information on the page about dual study models.
