Business Informatics is an interdisciplinary subject combining topics from business administrations, computer science and special aspects relevant for both. It deals with the development and application of information systems for business organizations and administration such as large corporations and banks.
These information systems can be thought of as the central nervous system of organizations. They are used to control all processes and communication both internally at a company and with other companies. In addition to technologies in use for a long time now, such as relational databases, ERP- systems, and business process modelling, business informatics specialists are also open for innovations, like big data and NoSQL databases, social media, cloud computing and software management, and they use these in practical applications. The focus of the course in Business Informatics at THM is on the development of business information systems, which means that a great deal of emphasis in the course is placed on all phases of software development.
