Electrical engineering deals with a very broad field of applications ranging from the efficient generation, distribution and usage of electrical energy to the storage, processing and usage of information in telecommunications and automation engineering.

State-of-the-art equipment such as computer technology, digital networks, micromechanical sensors and actuators are used in these applications and can also include complex system components like motors with position or speed encoders. In electrical engineering the diverse systems used range from pure software solutions (control software for vehicles, household appliances) to digital circuits (microcomputers, power electronics) to complex facilities (power plants, railway engineering, intercity express trains, radio equipment).
