The university entrance qualification is acquired, among other things, through:

  • the graduation certificate from a vocational high school,
  • The certificate confirming the acquisition of the university of applied sciences entrance qualification in the upper secondary level of a grammar school, a vocational grammar school, a Hessenkolleg (a college for students with special educational needs), or an evening grammar school in the state of Hesse. The academic component of the university of applied sciences entrance qualification alone is not sufficient. The certificate must demonstrate that the required academic achievements and professional experience for obtaining the qualification have been completed.
  • the certificate of completion of the two-year vocational school (assistants), in conjunction with proof of passing the supplementary examination to obtain the university entrance qualification and of a relevant internship of at least six months,
  • The certificate of university entrance qualification according to the agreement on the acquisition of a university entrance qualification in vocational education programs (resolution of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany of June 5, 1998, as amended). These certificates contain a corresponding endorsement from the issuing federal state.
  • the graduation certificate from a public or state-recognized private vocational school (field of economics, social pedagogy, home economics or technology) with additional lessons and supplementary examination,
  • the certificate of university entrance qualification after the final examination of the university entrance qualification courses (field of technology, economics or social pedagogy) at Bundeswehr technical schools,
  • the certificate of completion of the advanced training course “Administration” at the Bundeswehr technical schools,
  • the certificate of university entrance qualification after the final examination of the course for acquiring the university entrance qualification at border guard technical schools

If your certificate contains the note " This certificate is only valid in conjunction with ...", you must also provide proof of your academic achievements (leaving certificate) and proof of practical experience (e.g., training certificate, internship certificate)

If proof of a completed internship or vocational training is part of the university entrance qualification (HZB), online application for a restricted-admission degree program is also possible if a certificate from the internship or training provider confirms that the internship or vocational training will be completed before the start of the courses. In this case, you must upload your certificate for the academic portion of your university entrance qualification as well as a corresponding certificate for the internship or training (dates and duration) with your application.

Note: This procedure applies exclusively to admission-restricted Degree Courses , regulated by § 20 (6) HHZV.

This regulation does not apply to enrollments in open-admission degree programs. The following procedure applies in these cases:

If proof of a completed internship or practical training is part of the HZB (Higher Education Entrance Qualification), the submission of the enrollment documents is still possible.

The following documents must be submitted: the certificate for the academic part of the university entrance qualification, as well as a corresponding certificate for the internship or training, which clearly shows that this part is completed or was completed before the start of the respective semester (March 31 or September 30).

The final certificate of university entrance qualification based on this can be submitted later, up until the start of lectures.
