In Hesse, there are many opportunities to realize your desire to study. The following information is intended to make university access a little clearer for you.
Access to higher education is regulated in § 60 of the Hessian Higher Education Act of 28.12.2021 (GVBl. 2021, 931) in its currently valid version.
Entry requirements for Bachelor degree courses
The following degrees qualify for bachelor's degree studies at universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen):
- General University Entrance Qualification
- Subject-specific university entrance qualification
- a qualification recognized by the Hessian Ministry of Education as equivalent to the university entrance qualification
- University entrance qualification
- a successfully passed university entrance examination for professionally qualified applicants
- the master craftsman's certificate
- Completion of professional development training
- Graduation from an administrative and economics academy in conjunction with vocational training
- Intermediate school leaving certificate in combination with a completed, qualified 3-year vocational training with a final grade of 2.5 or better
Certificates of university entrance qualification from other federal states
university of applied sciences entrance qualification, acquired in the upper secondary level of a Gymnasium (academic high school), is mutually recognized in all German states except Bavaria and Saxony vocational experience .
Whether your certificate is recognized in Hesse by a resolution of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs is usually indicated by a corresponding note on the certificate. If
your certificate only contains a note such as "...this certificate entitles you to study at a university of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg..." State School Authority for the Darmstadt-Dieburg district well in advance of enrollment . There, you can apply for a certificate confirming the equivalence of your qualification with the Hessian university of applied sciences entrance qualification.
International applicants
German and international prospective students with foreign university entrance qualifications (including persons with completed assessment tests at a preparatory college) who are not or have not previously been enrolled THM cannot apply directly to the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen .
For this reason, a separate application via UNI-ASSIST , the office for international student applications, is required. All applications are pre-screened there and forwarded to THM .
A university entrance qualification alone is not sufficient. Admission to the program requires proof German language skills
- German language test for university admission (DSH, level 2) or
- TestDaF (German as a Foreign Language) at least level 4 in all parts of the exam or
- German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (Level II – DSD II; Level Examination 4x C1) or
- Goethe-Institut Large or Small Language Diploma or
- Central upper secondary level examination (ZOP) of the Goethe-Institut or
- Goethe-Zertifikat C2
- TELC C1 University
Entry requirements for Master degree courses
Enrollment in a Master's programme requires a first professional qualification (usually a corresponding Bachelor's degree), which must be completed before enrollment in the Master's programme. Simultaneous enrollment in a consecutive Master's programme and a first professional qualification programme in the same semester is therefore not possible.
Further requirements (e.g. language skills, overall grade of the first qualifying degree) and further detailed conditions are regulated in the examination regulations of the respective study programme.
Entry requirements for studying at StudiumPlus
dual Bachelor degree courses
Enrollment in a dual Bachelor's degree program requires a university entrance qualification according to § 60 of the Hessian Higher Education Act. Additionally, a contract must be concluded between the student and a CCD partner company of StudiumPlus.
dual Master degree courses
Enrollment in a Master's programme requires a first professional qualification (usually a corresponding Bachelor's degree), which must be completed before enrollment in the Master's programme. Simultaneous enrollment in a consecutive Master's programme and a first professional qualification programme in the same semester is therefore not possible.
Further requirements (e.g. language skills, overall grade of the first qualifying degree) and further detailed conditions are regulated in the examination regulations of the respective study programme.
In addition, a contract must be concluded between the student and a CCD partner company of StudiumPlus.

If you do not have a first university degree, it is possible to be admitted to a Master's distance learning programme via an aptitude test.
