The Master's program in Infrastructure - Water and Transport is a joint program offered by the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen and the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. This program combines the expertise and specialist knowledge of both universities in this field.
The study program teaches students the technical, operational, and organizational aspects of infrastructure projects in the water and transportation sectors, taking into account social, environmental, and economic considerations. The project-oriented curriculum focuses on the planning, maintenance, and operational optimization of facilities and structures.
The Master's program in Infrastructure – Water and Transport can be studied full-time or part-time while working. In the part-time version, the study schedule is extended, so that typically only three modules are taken per semester instead of six, thus extending the study duration from three to five semesters.
Studies
Study content
Students learn not only to plan infrastructure facilities, but also to commission and maintain them. As generalists, they combine business and environmental knowledge with technical expertise. In collaboration with government agencies, engineering firms, and companies, projects are developed in which students participate in the conception, planning, construction, and operation phases. Projects implemented so far include project management for the planning of a highway section, the economic and technical analysis of renewable energy systems, and the design of water management facilities. Students can specialize in the areas of water/wastewater or transportation, or choose a cross-cutting focus.
Excursions to destinations both in Germany and abroad take students to sites such as biogas plants, wastewater treatment plants, water supply facilities, and waste disposal plants, where, in addition to the technical systems, the focus is on operation and economic efficiency. They also visit road and rail infrastructure, discuss innovative transportation concepts, and examine operational and safety-related aspects.

Areas of specialization
Elective module
The extensive range of elective courses allows students to specialize in their chosen area of study. In addition to interdisciplinary modules (for example, from the fields of management, law, and the environment), students can also select Elective courses from a specific area of focus (water or transportation). Choosing at least four Elective modules and a project from the same area of focus establishes the student's chosen specialization. Of course, students can also select Elective modules from both areas.
Students with a 6-semester Bachelor's degree (180 credit points) may receive admission with conditions and must provide proof of a further 30 credit points after approval by the program director before being admitted to the Master's thesis.

Career prospects
Perspectives
Graduates address societal changes, such as demographic shifts, through planning measures. They find employment in building and planning departments, water, environmental and transport authorities, public and private transport companies, engineering firms, service companies in the fields of water supply, wastewater disposal, urban development and city management, or with development aid organizations.

| Requirements | Admission to the program requires a completed Bachelor's or Diploma degree in Civil Engineering or another spatial planning-related field with a grade point average of 2.8 or better. Furthermore, applicants must demonstrate sound knowledge in the planning of water supply and wastewater disposal systems and/or road and rail transport infrastructure (a minimum of 20 ECTS credits in total). Applications and enrollment are handled by Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. |
