In accordance with the university's own mission statement, the THM strives to initiate activities and projects to meet technical, economic and social challenges on the basis of the latest findings. As with other universities of applied sciences (HAW), the institutional self-image of the THM is linked to the organization to pursue education and research in equal measure and to combine both.

The THM is the largest of the five state universities in Hesse and is characterized by a lively university culture. In addition to future-oriented research projects by THM scientists, the university itself is also continuously developing in its various performance dimensions.
