"It's very important for our university to have this space. We're sending a signal to student parents." This is how Vice President Prof. Dr. Axel Schumann-Luck assessed the opening of the "Parent-Child Room" on December 8th at the Giessen University of Applied Sciences.
As part of its initiative to create a "family-friendly university," the Giessen -Friedberg University of Applied Sciences is expanding its services and infrastructure for students with children with this retreat. The space on the fourth floor of Building A includes a small kitchenette, a play area, and a quiet zone with a crib for toddlers. It also offers two Wi-Fi workstations for parents who want to access their course material while looking after their children.
The room is open to students and employees who need to bring their offspring to the university. You can withdraw to the friendly room with the little ones from Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. or leave your children in the care of a babysitter there. Use is regulated in a non-bureaucratic and pragmatic manner. The key is available at the information desk on the ground floor of building A if you enter your name in the occupancy list.
At the opening, Catherine Meckel-Oschmann, Women's Representative at the Giessen -Friedberg University of Applied Sciences, expressed her joy at being able to offer students and children such a space. She thanked everyone who contributed to the swift installation of the parent-child room, particularly highlighting the contribution of project manager Hajo Köppen.
