TH Mittelhessen is among 15 companies that the Wetterau district has recognized for their family-friendliness. The district administration's jury specifically acknowledged the programmes offered on the THMFriedberg campus, which help university members better balance family life with work or studies.
Kornelia Schäfer, head of the Women and Equal Opportunities Department of the Wetterau district, explains the initiative: “With this award, we want to highlight best practices in the Wetterau region. Family-friendly companies are key to securing skilled workers and ensuring equal opportunities for women and men in the workplace.”
The Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen aligns its personnel policies and infrastructure with the needs of employees and students with family responsibilities. This was first confirmed in 2005 by the Hertie Foundation's "Family-Friendly University" audit. Following the implementation of the agreed-upon targets, it received the coveted certificate again in 2008 and 2011. THM 's "Family-Friendly University Office" develops concepts aimed at creating favorable conditions for reconciling family obligations with academic demands in everyday university life.
The service for students with children includes both counseling and the possibility of receiving subsidies for babysitting costs. Employees of TH Mittelhessen can, among other things, take advantage of flexible working hours and alternating teleworking. Specific infrastructural measures that students and staff can use equally include parent-child rooms and children's play areas in the libraries at the Giessen and Friedberg campuses.
