From the vacuum tube to the microprocessor, from the Zuse computer to the PC, and from the rotary dial to the internet: These are examples of developments in electrical engineering and computer science in the professional lives of the engineers who graduated from the State Engineering School in Giessen in the winter semester of 1959/60. A group of them recently met for a visit to the university of applied sciences.

The 12 alumni, who had found jobs in industry and with authorities all over Germany at the time, came from Erlangen, Bremen, Saarland, Stuttgart, Siegen and Hesse, among others.

Prof. Dr. Werner Bonath, chairman of the electrical engineering support group, led the guests through the electrical and information technology Department . The enormous change in the technical laboratory equipment became clear to visitors. In 1957 they had started their studies in a barrack equipped with a few instruments. 50 years later, the students in the laboratories have high-tech equipment available.
