Claudia Fabel raved about the "ideal solution" at the opening of the new parent-child room at the Friedberg University of Applied Sciences. Together with her colleague Christina Paulencu, the women's representative had campaigned tirelessly to ensure that parents and their children had a place of retreat at the university.
Last year, as part of its initiative to create a "family-friendly university," the university in Giessen established a similar space for students and staff with children. The Friedberg parent-child room, located on the second floor of the new building on Hanauer Straße, has an area of approximately 160 square meters, including ancillary rooms. The bright room, with glass walls on two sides, features a changing table, sleeping area, and cooking facilities. A Wi-Fi workstation allows parents to work comfortably. The orange and green furnishings cost approximately 8,000 euros. University staff donated toys.
FH Vice President Prof. Dr. Axel Schumann praised the commitment of the women's representative. He said that her persistence was responsible for the significant progress the university has made in childcare in recent years. At certain times, the parent-child room is also used for sports activities such as back exercises or "active lunch breaks.".
