The leading German trade fair for optics, photonics, electronics and mechanics takes place every year in the optics city of Wetzlar: again a good 1500 trade visitors are expected at the W3+ Fair in the Buderus Arena on March 29th and 30th. Three teams from the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) are also represented, two of them at the THMown stand with the number S1, one at the IHK at D7.
A home match is the trade fair for the LOTus competence center with the optics center, which is based in Wetzlar's Spilburg and whose donor companies are regular visitors to the fair. Not only the research work of the center will be presented, but also the new master's course "Optical System Engineering". For student day, the team offers a microscope that takes you into the smallest details of the world. In addition, a test setup for a 3D-printed optics frame can be seen, which makes the work of the center tangible.
Also represented at THMbooth S1 will be the student research group "Mamut-Robotics" from the Giessen Department Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, which focuses on the design, development, and deployment of mobile robots. They will present a model of a small reconnaissance robot that can be deployed in disaster situations to gather information without endangering humans. Visitors to the trade fair can pilot this robot through a simulated accident in a factory and experience the challenges of teleoperation of a mobile robot based on live video images.
Finally, the 3D printing center of the THMwhich opened in January, will be presented at the IHK at stand D7. It serves to impart knowledge about 3D printing and prototyping as well as a test laboratory for research projects and start-ups at the THM.
Students and pupils can visit the organizer’s Webseite at www.w3-fair.com book a free ticket, which they receive at the box office upon presentation of their school or university ID. The trade fair will take place on March 29th and 30th in Wetzlar's Buderus Arena and will be supplemented by specialist lectures and special events.
