Open-air festival on the Wiesenstrasse campus on June 25, 2022
From 1 p.m. on June 25, Gießener Wiesenstraße will be transformed into a colorful festival mile: Under the motto “ Gießen . TECHNOLOGY. FUTURE. for 50 years" the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen ( THM ) invites you to the anniversary celebration. Many attractions offer fun and games for the whole family. At the same time, the THM provides information about things worth knowing about the university.
“Strictly speaking, THM celebrated its anniversary last year,” notes President Prof. Dr. Matthias Willems. But because the Corona situation was unclear at the time, planning was simply impossible. Now the university not only invites students, interested parties and those associated with the THM to the open-air event, but also organizes a celebration for everyone. “We want to celebrate with the whole Gießen – but of course also with everyone else who is happy with the THM or simply wants to experience a few nice hours,” says Willems.
The university was created on August 1, 1971 as a result of the new Hessian University of Applied Sciences Act through the merger of the State Engineering Schools in Gießen and Friedberg and the Fulda Pedagogical Institute. After Fulda became self-employed in 1974 with its own focus, the university operated from 1978 until renaming in 2011 as FH Gießen -Friedberg. The number of students, teachers and faculties has grown: currently almost 18,000 young people are enrolled in twelve faculties and the Center for Dual University Studies, spread over three locations and six branch offices.
These departments present themselves at the summer festival in their own forum and show what applied science is all about. A supporting programme consisting of information contributions from members and partners of the THM as well as award ceremonies to students will take place on three stages in parallel and into the evening hours. There is a lot of music in the air over the Wiesenstraße on this day: Balladeire, Aayana Batô, Seven Vibes, Shantel & Bucovina Club Orkestar, among others, ensure a good mood. As "Special Guest" the local stars of OK Kid play an electronic set.
In addition to fun for the youngest from "Ichmael's Zirkusscheune", there is a climbing tower for children and young people - and for everyone who wants to let off steam physically. "But we also want to show what makes the THM apart from teaching and research," says Matthias Willems. The “International Office”, the Language Center, Sustainability Management and the university’s own “Green Office”, the team from university sport , the “Makerspaces” from Friedberg and Gießen and the women’s representatives are all there. The " THM Info" team will answer questions about studying at the THM in the "Info Lounge".
The free festival programme is rounded off by an extensive gastronomic offer. In addition to a diverse selection of drinks, there are culinary delicacies from mobile restaurateurs - from sweet to salty.
