More than 700 students accepted the invitation to the Friedberg Information Days (FIT) this year. The Department of the Giessen -Friedberg University of Applied Sciences presented their entire study programmes over two days. "We want to show you our operations from the inside," said co-organizer Prof. Dr. Burkhard Kampschulte. "This will give you a much more vivid picture of everyday university life than is possible with brochures and information leaflets."
The FIT initiative is a collaborative project between the University of Applied Sciences and the Friedberg regional office of the Hessian State Institute for Education (HeLP). It gives young people the opportunity to get to know the University of Applied Sciences as an academic institution. The aim is to enable them to make an informed decision about their further education and future career path. Groups of students from the Wetterau region, as well as from Central Hesse and the Hanau/Offenbach area, mostly accompanied by their teachers, visited the University of Applied Sciences. A total of 25 groups from 15 different schools took advantage of the opportunity this time.
Kampschulte described the collaboration with HeLP as "the recipe for success of this event." Dagmar Schlemermeyer from HeLP Friedberg agreed. She assured everyone that after HeLP's dissolution next year, the State School Authority would be an equally reliable partner. During the information days, professors presented the Degree Courses in engineering, management, and computer science in three sessions. Students were able to experience the practical focus, a particular strength of the university of applied sciences, firsthand during laboratory tours. They gained insights into the application-oriented study options offered by laboratories such as those for media design, vacuum technology, telecommunications, computer-aided design, robotics, and laser technology. The concurrent "Teachers' Café" focused on conceptual and practical questions regarding cooperation between schools and universities. Teachers and professors exchanged experiences and discussed suitable ways to prepare students for university studies and future careers.
The afternoon programme included a presentation on the new international Bachelor's and Master's degrees, as well as the opportunity to attend open lectures. Topics such as laser optics, Business Information Systems , and fundamentals of business administration were available. The programme was rounded off with an information fair in the university foyer, where the individual Degree Courses presented themselves. Information on topics such as student loans (BAföG), studying abroad, and sports at the university was also available.
