The excursion in the courtyard of the German embassyFourteen mathematics students from the Giessen -Friedberg University of Applied Sciences embarked on a five-day excursion to Paris. The group, accompanied by Friedberg professors Dr. Ulrich Abel and Dr. Wilfried Hausmann (both from Department of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Data Processing), completed an extensive programme of visits.

At the German Embassy, Michael Zenner welcomed the guests from the Wetterau region. The economic attaché gave a presentation on current economic and European political issues, focusing particularly on Franco-German relations. The students, most of whom are specializing in "Mathematics in Economics," participated actively in the subsequent discussion.

The excursion participants also attended lectures on economic topics at the credit insurance company Euler Hermes SA and at the Paris Stock Exchange. A technical focus was placed on the visit to the Robert Bosch (France) SAS company in a suburb of the French capital. The group gained insights into the history of technological and industrial development during their visit to the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie (Science and Industry Museum) in Paris. The relatively small mathematics department proved to be a highlight of the programme, which all participants considered a very informative complement to their academic studies.
