Around 2,600 young people will begin their studies at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen ) in the winter semester of 2023/24. Many of them accepted the invitation and participated in the THM 's welcome events in Giessen and Friedberg on the first Monday in October.
In the Giessen Congress Hall, Vice President Prof. Dr. Katja Specht welcomed the first-year students. She noted a "positive, optimistic atmosphere" and expressed her delight "that so many students have found their way to us." She wished all the first-year students good luck for this new chapter in their lives and appealed to them not to forget the fun, despite the seriousness of their studies.
Mayor Frank-Tilo Becher also addressed the young audience on behalf of the city's community, emphasizing that Giessen is "the city with the highest student density in Germany." He added that the large number of students contributes significantly to the "urban flair" of the university town.
A total of 1,520 young people have enrolled at the THM campus Giessen for the current winter semester (as of the end of September; registrations are still ongoing). The most popular bachelor's degree courses are Business Administration (226), Civil Engineering (143), and Computer Science (129). In its inaugural semester, the new bachelor's programme in Business Administration – Sustainability Management attracted 61 prospective students.
In Friedberg, the welcome day for the "Study Introduction Programme" (STEP) began with opening presentations in the various Department . At the Department Business Administration and Engineering for example, Dean Prof. Dr. Daniel Piazolo welcomed the new students and provided them with introductory information about the higher education landscape in general, THMof Applied Sciences, the structure of the degree programme, and career prospects. Under the heading "The Career of Industrial Engineer," he explained to his audience the fields of activity and career prospects for qualified young professionals, as well as the reasons for the high regard in which they are held by employers. He elaborated: "Industrial engineers, with their broad knowledge base, can bridge the gap between technology and business."
At the THMcampus in the Wetterau region, around 600 young people will begin their academic studies this winter semester. The highest numbers of new students are in the Degree Courses Business Information Systems (133), Business Administration and Engineering (111, of which 31 have a focus on real estate), and Railway Engineering (68).
As part of STEP, in Friedberg, as in Giessen , the welcome address in the plenary session was followed by tours of the university campus in smaller groups, accompanied by mentors, visiting various stations. Under the motto "Meet & Greet," these included contact points and service facilities such as the central students advisory service , the university sport department, and the THMunion (AStA). Further events during the week include a city rally, a barbecue, the AStA party, and online presentations on topics such as "Digital Services for Studying" and "Financing Your Studies.".
StudiumPlus in Wetzlar reports almost 480 new students enrolled in its dual study programmes for the 2023/24 winter semester. The most popular bachelor's programmes among first-year students are Business Administration (123) and Civil Engineering (97).
