The participants listened to the presentations in an impressive setting. Photo: THMThe Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) offers its students diverse educational opportunities, including through Erasmus programmes. For example, the blended intensive programme "REgeneration For UnivErsity" took place as a summer school in Pavia, Italy, in September.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture at the University of Pavia organized the event under the academic direction of Prof. Alessandro Greco. Faculty and students from Pavia, THMApplied Sciences, the ETSAM School of Architecture in Madrid, the Institute of Technology in Izmir, the Central University of Chile in Santiago, and the University of Messina participated. The lectures focused on architecture and accessibility.

Furthermore, a design workshop was held, conducted in internationally mixed groups led by tutors and lecturers from Pavia and visiting professors. The students worked in small groups on the former Don Bosco Oratory – a day care center for schoolchildren. The aim was to better adapt the building and the surrounding open spaces to the needs of the academic community, as the building has belonged to the university for several years. The site already includes a student residence, sports facilities, and a 300-seat lecture hall. After the ten-day workshop, a final presentation took place, during which the academic committee selected the best project.

The scientific coordination at THM was handled by Ulrike Wassermann and Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Nikolaus Zieske. At the end of the event, he noted with satisfaction: "It's always wonderful to see how the intensive, collaborative discussion about architecture leads to international friendships – a step towards international understanding." The Summer School, focusing on various architectural topics, has been held for several years in cooperation with the aforementioned universities and colleges at different locations, including three times in Giessen .
