The municipality of Biebertal and the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen have agreed on a "cooperation in the field of digital communication in rural areas." "This will involve direct collaboration in the area of web television and its local editorial integration," according to a cooperation agreement signed in Giessen by Biebertal's mayor, Patricia Ortmann, and THMPresident Prof. Dr. Matthias Willems.
The plan is to develop a collaborative platform where short films and news segments, created by citizens for citizens of the community, can be viewed. A team of editors from Biebertal will be responsible for the content.
The project leader at THM is Prof. Dr. Frank Kammer from the Giessen Department of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Computer Science. "Every day, something happens in our communities that's worth reporting and of interest to the regional public," Kammer explains. "These events rarely appear in existing regional media. Through official announcements, the involvement of local associations, event listings, as well as personal messages and automated information gathering, we aim to offer citizens an engaging, personalized program. In the long term, this will foster a sense of community rather than anonymity and create a local historical record."
