Prof. Dirk Metzger has taken up his post at the Giessen -Friedberg University of Applied Sciences. He teaches construction management and project control in the Department of Civil Engineering in Giessen .
Dirk Metzger completed his architecture studies at the Technical University of Darmstadt with a diploma. He also qualified for practical construction work by training as a carpenter specializing in construction and furniture making. He began his career as an architect in Heidelberg in 1994. He then worked for API Ingenieurgesellschaft in Neu-Isenburg before joining the architectural firm APD in Darmstadt in 1998. He has been a partner at the firm since 2001.
The range of construction projects he oversaw extends from residential buildings to high-rises (renovation of the old Commerzbank high-rise in Frankfurt). In addition to classic design and planning tasks, Prof. Metzger's professional interests and areas of expertise include project development and project management. He participates in the "BauKom Online" research consortium, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Its goal is to improve construction organization through the use of new information technologies and to optimize the planning, construction, and operation of buildings, thereby making them more cost-effective. Furthermore, he contributes to publications (DBV fact sheets) for the German Concrete Association.He has gained experience in the academic training of architects and civil engineers since 2001 as a lecturer at the Giessen -Friedberg University of Applied Sciences. He is a member of the Hessian Chamber of Architects.
