The German Society for Medical Physics (DGMP) has appointed Prof. Dr. Klemens Zink awarded the Glocker Medal. The physicist, who teaches at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen , was honored for his “outstanding achievements in the field of medical physics in science and practice”.
Since 2001, Zink has been a professor at the Gießen Department of Life Science Engineering at the THM in Gießen . He co-founded the Institute for Medical Physics and Radiation Protection, of which he was Managing Director from 2006 to 2014. His research focus is on radiation therapy with high-energy protons and ions.
Since 2009, the scientist has also been Head Medical Physicist at the Clinic for Radiation Therapy at the University Hospital Gießen -Marburg. He has been scientific and technical director at the ion beam therapy center there since last year. The center enables precise irradiation with highly effective carbon ions.
The DGMP is the German scientific society for medical physics and has about 1600 members. The Glocker Medal, which has been awarded annually since 2002, is the society's highest award and is named after the physicist Richard Glocker.
