Prof. Dr. Joachim Breckow from the TH Mittelhessen is also chairman of the Radiation Protection Commission in 2018 Federal Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks has appointed Prof. Dr. Joachim Breckow from the TH Mittelhessen has also been given the chairmanship of the Radiation Protection Commission for 2018. The 20-member expert committee advises the ministry on all issues relating to protection against the dangers of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. Membership is a personal voluntary position. Around 100 scientists work on the commission in seven permanent committees and a number of project groups.

Breckow has been teaching physics and radiation protection at the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Computer Science in Gießen since 1997. He is the managing director of the Institute for Medical Physics and Radiation Protection. The university lecturer was a member of the Radiation Protection Commission from 1998 to 2004 and has been a member again since 2012, since 2016 as chairman.
