Kiesel studied business administration with a focus on media management at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University in Heidenheim. In 2004 he passed the examination for a degree in business administration. At the same time, he studied at the Open University Business School in Milton Keynes and obtained a Bachelor of Arts. Kiesel then studied Management at the University of South Wales as a cooperative course with the German Graduate School of Management & Law (GGS) in Heilbronn. He received his Masters in 2007.

He completed his PhD on entrepreneurship in January 2021 at the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris. In the field of business administration, he submitted numerous papers to support digital startup companies.

Kiesel also completed commercial publishing training and a traineeship at a leading specialist magazine publisher. At an international subsidiary of the Bertelsmann Group, he initially worked in controlling and then as deputy commercial manager. For the last twelve years he has been responsible for marketing at a former telephone book publisher, which, after a successful transformation, now offers digital marketing services for companies. In teaching Prof. Dr. Simon Kiesel focuses on digital marketing, eCommerce and customer relationship management.
