Portrait of Prof. Dr. Schiffner Prof. Dr. Sebastian Schiffner started working at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM). He teaches measurement technology and data science at the Mechanical and Energy Engineering Department .

Schiffner studied physics at the Free University of Berlin, where he received his pre-diploma, and he completed his diploma at the Technical University of Darmstadt. The focus of his studies was applied physics and optics, with computer science as a minor.

He completed his doctorate on the topic of "In situ characterization of precision optics using deflectometry and adaptive image processing" in Giessen in January 2012. This was a collaboration between Justus Liebig University and THM. In his thesis, Schiffner presented an approach to improving a calibration lathe using a self-developed centering algorithm.

Schiffner worked for several years in software development for a metrology and software group and was active in research and development for high-precision coordinate measuring machines. He then completed a doctorate in engineering at the University of Kassel and worked on the topic "Development of a mixed reality environment to investigate feelings of anxiety when climbing". At the same time, he taught software development.

The last station before his appointment at THM was Schiffner working in an IT consulting, data science and organization company, where he was involved in the further development of highly optimized data access systems. In teaching Prof. Dr. Sebastian Schiffner focuses on the areas of optics, measurement technology, data science, AI and mixed reality (VR/AR).
