One new female professor and two new male professors have started work at the Giessen -Friedberg University of Applied Sciences in the current winter semester.

Prof. Dr. Ute Windisch teaches biology and ecology at the Department of Hospital and Medical Technology, Environmental and Biotechnology. The biologist earned her doctorate ( Dr. rer. nat. in 1998 from the Institute of Plant Ecology at Justus Liebig University Giessen . Her dissertation focused on methods for detecting the effects of emissions on biological systems using bioindicators. She had previously investigated the possibilities of determining air quality by examining lichen growth as a research assistant at JLU in cooperation with the Hessian State Institute for the Environment and Geology and the Giessen -Friedberg University of Applied Sciences. Later, in her own consulting firm, she applied such methods to various statewide and municipal bioindication projects.

The bioindication of air pollution and climate change, as well as the visualization of environmental data, are key areas of her scientific work and topics of her publications.
