Association grants FFTHM.de | Association of friends and sponsors of the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen in Friedberg eV

In WS 21/22, selected students were again able to receive a partial scholarship for the Cambridge Certificate exam fee.
This certificate is internationally recognized, is valid as proof of the B2 level (or higher) and does not lose its validity.
As part of the Elective course "Preparation for the First Cambridge Certificate", offered by Ms. Zeller -Hofer, interviews with students took place:

my congratulations on your passing First Cambridge Certificate!

1. In which course are you enrolled at the THM and what are your main areas of focus during your studies?

   Thanks very much! I am dual enrolled in the mechanical engineering course and am specializing in materials and manufacturing technology. So I am primarily concerned with material processing and the corresponding material properties.

2. You can now prove the C1 level in the English language. What was your motivation to take part in preparing for the certificate exam in WS 21/22?

   There are several reasons for that. On the one hand I will need the certificate as proof of English for a master's degree, on the other hand I wanted to prove my English skills myself. The preparation for this was mandatory for dual students at the THM and very helpful for successfully passing the certificate.

3. How did you find out about the course?

   The preparation for the First Cambridge Certificate was offered this semester as part of the is+a course as a mentoring course. We were made aware of the offer by the administrator for dual Degree Courses at the THM and were able to take advantage of it.

4.  You have from the club FFTHM.de | Association of friends and sponsors of the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen in Friedberg eV receive a scholarship (50% of the examination fee). How did the application process go?

   In order to receive the scholarship from the FFTHM , it was only necessary to write an application for the scholarship in English. Above all, it should explain your own motivation for obtaining the Cambridge Certificate and the reasons why this scholarship is particularly helpful for you. This application was forwarded to the FFTHM and some applicants were selected for the scholarship.
   If the certificate was passed, half of the examination fee was transferred accordingly.

5. How will you use the internationally recognized certificate in the future?
   

   First of all, the certificate will be important for me when applying for a master’s degree, since most colleges and universities require recognized proof of English. But it will still be useful in the further course of my life. I aim to study or work abroad for a while, either as part of my master's degree or independently. Here, too, proof of the language level is helpful and often required.

6. How long is the Cambridge certificate valid?
   

   In contrast to many other proofs, the Cambridge certificate does not lose its validity.

7. Do you recommend that your fellow students also take the certificate exam?
   

   I would definitely recommend it. There are many reasons to obtain such a certificate. Whether in professional life or privately, it always gives you a little head start.

1. In which course are you enrolled at the THM and what are your main areas of focus during your studies?
   

   I'm studying general electrical engineering and haven't chosen a major in order to have a broad base. Personal interests lie in automation technology and computer science.

2. You can now prove the C1 level in the English language. What was your motivation to take part in preparing for the certificate exam in WS 21/22?
   

   After working almost exclusively on exams that require working with numbers and formulas for three years, I wanted to be well prepared for such an exam. At the beginning of my studies, it was actually planned to use more of the THM 's language offerings. But the pandemic messed things up. When I heard about the certificate, it was clear to me that I should take this one chance before I finish my studies.

3. How did you find out about the course?
   

   Even though I was aware at the beginning of my studies (e.g. through the introductory events) that there were several language courses at the THM , a reminder was needed in the Business English module.

   A small letter of motivation was enough for this. I wrote this in English and sent it to the coordinator for language programmes for the Friedberg campus, Mrs. Zeller-Hofer.

5. How will you use the internationally recognized certificate in the future?
   

   That's still up in the air. In my current job, there is hardly any international customer contact. But since this is the beginning of my professional career, I am sure that this certificate will lead to benefits. Especially if the intention is to contact the well-known engineering employers in the region.

6. How long is the Cambridge certificate valid?
   

   The Cambridge English exam certificate is valid indefinitely.

7. Do you recommend that your fellow students also take the certificate exam?
   

   Yes! It is a nice change to arithmetic and programmeming. You also get to know students from other Degree Courses n. It is not comparable to the high school English lessons. The way in preparation and examination is the knowledge is much more pleasant. Another advantage is that the preparatory course can be counted as Elective module.
