Students of the railway engineering course visited the world's leading switch manufacturer Voestalpine as part of the "Bahnprojekt II, Englisch" event.
Mr. Axel Zimmer, production manager at the Butzbach location, and Mr. Patrick Zörb, responsible for technical export sales, and a former student in the course of railway engineering, guided the students through the production of the most modern switch systems in English.
Voestalpine plans and produces turnout systems for high-speed trains for speeds of up to 350 km/h. This requires the highest quality and dimensional accuracy during mechanical processing, as well as during assembly and laying on the track.
Butzbach is the production site for high-speed technologies and the company's headquarters. Here all forces are bundled and all measures are coordinated, tailor-made switch systems and segments are produced for the fastest railways in the world.
The switch systems are exported to China, and the students were also impressed by the logistical challenges of these transports.
The participants had an insight into the entire production process and then had the opportunity to ask the experts questions.
