General

Hazardous Substances Officers advise and support the university management in specifying the obligations that result in particular from the Hazardous Substances Ordinance, but also from the rest of the occupational safety and health regulations. When carrying out their tasks, they report directly to the university management or the person responsible.

The Ordinance on Hazardous Substances requires specialist knowledge in the area of hazardous substances in order to carry out the risk assessment. If the university management does not have the necessary specialist knowledge itself, appropriately qualified hazardous materials officers can be appointed.

As part of the implementation of the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances, the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art recommended the appointment of an authorized representative for hazardous substances as early as 1989. Therefore, the official designation in Hesse is "Hazardous Substance Officer" and not "Hazardous Substance Officer".
