Motivation, quality, agility and diversity - value-based university development

That Mission statement of the THM puts people at the center: “Respect and appreciation are the central foundations of our university culture.” Further basic values ​​are derived from this, which are represented in the mission statement by the four general terms Motivation, quality, agility and diversity are reproduced and in twelve guiding principles be determined in more detail. The understanding of quality in teaching is in the principles of good teaching laid down separately.

Talents.Technology.Future. – wide range of Degree Courses

The THM identifies one wide variety of attractive fields of study, with more than half of the Degree Courses being engineering-oriented. In addition, the range of studies includes the subject areas of computer science, life sciences, health and management.

Almost 40 Degree Courses lead to a bachelor's degree and over 40 to a master's degree. The THMslogan “Talente.Technik.Zukunft.” summarizes the self-image well: young people (talents) should be enabled to use various technologies (technology) in a targeted manner in a working world of constant change, full of complexity and ambiguity (future).

THMcampus as a place to learn and live

Universities are more than places for teaching, learning and research. The THM attaches great importance to promoting a lively university culture and would like to offer all THMmembers a needs-based range of events, support and advice.

The university sport In addition to a fitness studio, its offerings include a diverse course programme from A for acrobatics to Z for Zumba to provide the necessary balance to your studies. The newly acquired knowledge can be applied in the THM 's own laboratories and workshops and the "MakerSpaces" in Gießen and Friedberg are places where ideas can become reality with like-minded people. 

Prospective students, students and employees have access to contact points with various advisory services. The students advisory service provides competent advice on individual questions and also provides psychological support if necessary. The InfoCenter in Gießen and Friedberg  answer questions about starting your studies, studying and the THM.

Internationalization in and for the region

The university participates in international exchange programmes and cooperates with over 100 partner universities worldwide in studies, teaching and research. Students, teachers and employees are enabled to acquire international and intercultural skills. In 2022, more than 2,800 students (educational foreigners) from over 100 countries decided to study at THM.

Research at THM – application-oriented and transfer-oriented

In addition to academic teaching, research and knowledge and technology transfer are powerful fields of action at THM. The research activities often result from collaborations with partners from the regional economy and are characterized by their proximity to applications.

Research focuses are also concentrated in the eight interdisciplinary Centres of Competence. There is also intensive cooperation with the universities in Gießen and Marburg, which extends to the areas of biotechnology, space applications as well as automotive and renewable energies. As part of the tripartite alliance (“ Research Campus of Central Hessen“) enables the THM cooperative promotions in engineering sciences. THM was one of the first universities of applied sciences to open an independent doctoral center in 2016 and has since held the right to award doctorates for doctoral engineers.

Within knowledge transfer, the main focus is on promoting start-ups. The THM offers Support from the initial consultation through the patent application to the founding.
