Research sub-strategy

Vision: The THM strives to be perceived regionally, nationally and internationally as a renowned research institution on the subject of sustainability. We are convinced that with the help of science and technology we can contribute to solving many regional and global challenges – such as climate change, scarcity of resources or unequal educational opportunities.

mission statement: Through innovative, application-oriented research projects, we create added value for the cooperation partners involved, for society, business and researchers. In this way we make a contribution to the future viability of our region. We have always been guided by a strong set of values ​​- responsibility is the basis of our actions. Our research activities are always subject to basic scientific principles. The THM also pays particular attention to aspects of research ethics; research activities should serve sustainable goals in a narrow sense (e.g. measured by the contribution to the SDGs) and suggested sustainability (ie green washing) should be avoided.

Definition of “sustainability” for the research performance dimension: As a sustainable university, we harmonize ecological, social and economic aspects in our research activities - for ourselves as a university, for our students, for our cooperation partners as well as for society and the economy. We regard sustainability as a cross-sectional task. We not only want to research the topic of sustainability, but also design our research to be sustainable.
