Mathematics at the THM - realistically simulated

Many students have a small idea of what demands and what pace in mathematics at a university will come. Some Degree Courses are often not associated with mathematics, although math lectures in almost all Department of the THM belong to the curriculum of the first semester.

This offer is intended to enable teachers to give their students a realistic picture of what to expect in mathematics at the THM . Since words are usually not enough for this, the students should be able to experience the speed and the way the content is conveyed in an individual teaching unit.

The morning begins with a 30 to 90 minute lecture. The topics are selected individually with the teachers. The idea is to link the lecture to the school material so that the students have a realistic chance of following the lecture. On the other hand, new terms and methods should also be introduced at the usual university pace.

The students then receive an exercise sheet that they are to solve independently or in groups based on what they have learned. They are supported by a student tutor from a higher semester, whom they can also ask general questions about their studies. This simulates working through the weekly exercise sheets. Since in reality there is usually a week to do this, it is advisable to discuss the exercises as homework in the next lesson.

Depending on the topic chosen, there may also be the option of carrying out a laboratory test on the subject matter or integrating it into the exercise unit.
