Radiation meets schools

Radiation is a term familiar to most people, although it initially has negative connotations and is associated with harmful effects (UV radiation, Fukushima, Hiroshima, ...). On closer inspection, however, not everything takes place in the invisible and intangible; on the contrary, daily life is not possible without radiation.

For example, visible light, and therefore all objects we see, is nothing more than radiation that falls into our eyes. Also, almost all of our everyday technologies work or use various forms of radiation. A good example is our well-known smartphone:
phoning, surfing, taking photos - all of this requires radiation and people who can use its properties. This is where applied or medical physicists with interdisciplinary expertise come into play.

What do we offer? Insight, information, illustrative tests, demonstrations and experiments from our teaching, research and focus areas. This can lead to the following questions, for example:

  • How can radiation cut through metal or create components from powder?
  • What does radiation have to do with fast internet and what does fast mean?
  • How can we x-ray people with radiation and what are the advantages and disadvantages of going into “the tube”?
  • What does AI have to do with radiation and how can it help to better control radiation?
  • How do we gain regenerative energy from solar radiation and do we use it to solve all energy problems?

We are happy to answer all these and other questions on site at your school or at our campus in Friedberg. We are also happy to give you an insight into the study of applied sciences and provide information about further development and career opportunities.

If we have aroused interest, please contact us, we look forward to your inquiries.
