Während der vorlesungsfreien Zeit bietet die THM Kurzzeitprogramme in Form von Summer- oder Winter-Schools an. Diese Programme erstrecken sich über einen Zeitraum von 1 bis 4 Wochen und umfassen Blockseminare.
Neben den Kursen wird ein vielfältiges Rahmenprogramm angeboten. Summer Schools bieten eine ideale Gelegenheit, sich intensiv mit einem bestimmten Fachgebiet auseinanderzusetzen, Sprachkenntnisse zu verbessern, interkulturelle Fähigkeiten zu entwickeln oder einfach neue Kontakte mit Menschen aus verschiedenen Ländern zu knüpfen.

Blended Summer School in Germany – the Engineering Paradise
From July 03 - 17, 2026
From July 03 - 17, 2026 the THM department Mechanical Engineering and Energy Technology (ME) will host an international summer school.
Contents of the Summer School
- Learn about the newest developments in Applied Artificial Intelligence in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Technology and Sustainable Fuels or about Vehicle dynamics and technical design methods
- Language of instruction is English
- Receive 7,5 ECTS and a certificate of completion
- Get to know students from Germany and around the world
- Visit German companies in this professional field & listen to expert talks
- Enjoy a big social programme and field trips for a small social programme participation fee (around 50€)
- The summer school is eligible for Erasmus+ blended short-term frunding. Consult your home institution.
Undergraduate students (Mechanical Engineering/ Energy Technology) from our partner institutions are welcome to participate free of charge (no costs for the courses)!

You can choose Track A or Track B. Please consider the different mandatoy online lectures for each track. In addition to the class content, there will be excursions to German companies and a social programme.
Option 1 | TRACK A
Applied AI in Engineering (2,5 ECTS)
In this course you will learn:
- Overview of AI algorithms (neural networks, genetic algorithms,...)
- Basics of machine learning
- Introduction to data analysis and data preparation
- Use of AI libraries in the Python programming language
- Application of algorithms to specific issues in mechanical engineering and energy technology
Sustainable Fuels (5 ECTS)
After this course you will understand:
- Reaction kinetics
- Principles of reactor design and thermodynamics of fuel cells
- Basics of electrochemistry, gasification and reforming for synthesis gas production
- Alternative energy carriers - production principles, characteristics, and potentials

Option 2 | TRACK B
Motorboat Design Week (2,5 ECTS)
In this course you will learn:
- Sketching and visualizing creative concepts.
- Using AI tools like Vizcom to enhance your designs.
- Building physical prototypes with foam cutters and Styrofoam.
- Exploring design history, industrial design principles, and sustainable practices.
Vehicle Dynamics (5 ECTS)
After this course you will understand:
- The historical development in vehicle construction due to developments in manufacturing, material, drive and body technology
- The tasks, methods and responsibilities of “strategic management” in model planning
- The tasks of project management and product development for the completely new development of a vehicle
