Programm content

The Master program in Optical System Engineering builds consecutively on a completed, professionally qualifying Bachelor’s degree (minimum of seven semesters or 210 credit points) in Physical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a comparable field of engineering.

The curriculum consists of six compulsory modules that provide comprehensive knowledge for understanding and designing optical systems. The program concludes with the completion of a Master’s thesis and a final colloquium.

• Metrology, Tolerancing, and Quality Control of Optical Systems
• Modern Optical Manufacturing Technologies and Special Optics
• Optical Coatings and Optical Materials
• Advanced Laser Technology
• Numerical Methods in Optics

In addition, students can choose elective modules according to their interests from the full course catalog of THM.

Curriculum

The courses in the Master program are organized into modules. Credit points are awarded for successful participation. A total of 90 credit points must be earned to complete the program.

Perspectives

The Master program qualifies graduates for scientific research, strategic and leadership positions, and provides a solid foundation for pursuing a PhD. In addition, students obtain the professional qualifications required under the Ingenieurkammergesetz (german Engineering Chamber Act). Graduates may pursue careers in engineering offices, public authorities, research institutes, and industrial companies, or work as independent consultants.
