Globale Perspektive & arktische Weite: Ausbau der partnerschaftlichen Zusammenarbeit mit Kajaani University of Applied Sciences, KAMK in Finnland

Auf Einladung der Kajaani University of Applied Sciences KAMK sind Prof. Dr. Benjamin Löhr und Alexandra Hofmann vom 19.-21.03.2025 nach Finnland gereist, um internationale Programme der THM Business School weiter voranzutreiben.

Nach einer Anreise mit einzigartigen Flugbedingungen, inkl. eines Blicks auf Gießen, das THM-Gelände sowie im Verlauf auf die finnischen schneebedeckten Weiten, Seen und Wälder, erwartete die beiden Besucher aus Gießen eine herzliche Begrüßung durch Kirsi Sievers, International Specialist und Meira Kaikkonen, Head of International Affairs an der KAMK. Zusammen mit Sini Sarén, Head of Degree in Business, und Heli Kurkko, Head of Degree in Tourism, konnten Synergien für künftige gemeinsame Lehrangebote besprochen werden.

Bei Einblicken in die Wirkräume und Lehrveranstaltungen der Studiengänge E-Sports, IT und Business sowie Tourism wurde der Zugang zu modernster Technologie und angenehmen Lernräumen erlebbar, ebenso wie das besondere Engagement für eine international ausgerichtete Studierendengemeinschaft. In einer innovativen und studierfreundlichen Campus-Atmosphäre, die von einem Supercomputer ebenso wie von expliziten Begegnungsräumen für die internationale Hochschul-Community geprägt ist, trafen Prof. Löhr und Alexandra Hofmann mit ihren vorgebrachten Konzepten auf offene und verbindliche Gesprächspartner.

Gemeinsam mit Kirsi Sivers und einer Runde interessierter internationaler Studierender entstand ein spannender Austausch zu interkulturellen Lernformaten, 21st Century Skills und der Bedeutung internationaler Erfahrungen für heutige Studierende als essenzielle Vorbereitung für ihre zukünftige berufliche Laufbahn. In diesem Zuge präsentierten die beiden Vertreter der THM Business School das Modul 749 „International Business Simulation (Blended)“. Das transatlantische, englischsprachige Modul von Heike Siebert und Benjamin Löhr, welches durch Erasmus+ gefördert wird, wird seit 2023 einmal pro Jahr angeboten. Die Durchführung erfolgt in enger Zusammenarbeit der THM Business School und dem College of Business and Economic Development der Arkansas Tech University (ATU) in den USA. Für das bevorstehende Sommersemester und den anstehenden dritten Moduldurchlauf bietet sich nun eine besondere Chance:

Dank Unterstützung des ZeKoLL und der durch Benjamin Löhr und Heike Siebert eingeworbenen LIF-Förderung im NIDIT-Verbundprojekt der Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre arbeitet das Team, allen voran Alexandra Hofmann, seit Projektförderungsbeginn im letzten Quartal 2024 an der Weiterentwicklung des Moduls: Es soll eine dritte internationale Hochschule und damit weitere kulturelle Perspektiven eingebunden werden. Das Modul kann sich daher – begleitet durch Aktionsforschung – als zukunftsgerichtetes Lehr- und Lernkonzept weiterentwickeln.

Der intensive Austausch mündete in einer konkreten Absichtsbekundung einiger KAMK-Studierender, sich sogar bereits für eine Teilnahme des diesjährigen, in wenigen Wochen startenden virtuellen Teil des Moduls zu bewerben. Entsprechende Vorbereitungen sind auf Seiten von KAMK und THM aktuell in Gange. „Wir freuen uns sehr, wenn diese angenehme, professionelle und höchst agile Zusammenarbeit bereits in wenigen Wochen ein gemeinsames Lernen, Wachsen und Arbeiten von Studierenden der drei beteiligten Hochschulen, THM, ATU und KAMK, Realität werden lässt“, so Alexandra Hofmann.

Großer Dank gilt Kirsi Sievers und allen während des Aufenthalts begegneten KAMK-Kolleginnen und -Kollegen für ihre herzliche Gastfreundschaft und konstruktive Zusammenarbeit.
Fazit von Prof. Löhr: „Wir sehen in diesem Projekt das Potenzial, sowohl die Strukturen des Moduls 749 innovativ auszubauen als auch darüber hinaus die aktuell laufenden Aktivitäten des Fachbereichs zum Ausbau der Internationalisierung zu unterstützen, einschließlich damit verbundener zusätzlicher Chancen für unsere Studierenden.“ Wer Interesse an einem Auslandsstudium an der KAMK hat, kann sich gerne mit Auslandskoordinatorin Heike Siebert oder Prof. Dr. Christoph Gallus (Landesbeauftragter für Finnland) in Verbindung setzen.

Last, but not least: Am 20.03.2025 wurde Finnland gemäß World Happiness Report 2025 zum achten Mal als glücklichstes Land der Erde gekürt. Einen der mit dieser Zufriedenheit sicher eng verbundenen Faktoren konnten Alexandra Hofmann und Benjamin Löhr im Meeting-Anschluss auf dem Lake Paltaniemi persönlich erfahren: Die besondere Verbundenheit mit einer faszinierenden Natur.

Global Perspectives & Arctic Vastness: Expanding partnership with Kajaani University of Applied Sciences, KAMK in Finland

At the invitation of Kajaani University of Applied Sciences KAMK, Prof. Dr. Benjamin Löhr and Alexandra Hofmann traveled to Finland from 19-21.03.2025, to further advance international programs at THM Business School.

After a journey marked by unique flight conditions, including a view of Giessen, the THM campus and later the snow-covered expanses, lakes and forests of Finland, the two visitors from Giessen were warmly welcomed by Kirsi Sievers, International Specialist and Meira Kaikkonen, Head of International Affairs at KAMK. Together with Sini Sarén, Head of Degree in Business, and Heli Kurkko, Head of Degree in Tourism, they discussed synergies for future joint teaching initiatives.

Exploring the learning environments and courses within the E-Sports, IT, Business, and Tourism degree programs, they encountered state-of-the-art technology and pleasant study spaces, as well as a strong commitment to fostering an internationally oriented student community. The innovative, student-friendly campus atmosphere – enhanced by the presence of a supercomputer and designated spaces for intercultural interaction – proved to be the perfect setting for engaging conversations. Prof. Löhr and Alexandra Hofmann’s proposed concepts were met with open, engaging and supportive dialogue.

During a vibrant exchange with Kirsi Sivers and a group of interested international students, discussions centered on intercultural learning formats, 21st century skills and the vital role of international experience for today's students as essential preparation for their future professional careers. In this context, the THM Business School representatives presented Module 749 “International Business Simulation (Blended)”, led by Heike Siebert and Benjamin Löhr.

Supported by Erasmus+ and launched in 2023, the transatlantic, English-language module has been offered annually in close cooperation between the THM Business School and the College of Business and Economic Development at Arkansas Tech University (ATU) in the USA. Looking ahead to the upcoming summer semester and the third module run, a special opportunity arises:

Thanks to the support of ZeKoLL and the LIF funding acquired by Benjamin Löhr and Heike Siebert through the NIDIT project within the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education, the project team, led by Alexandra Hofmann, has been working on the further development of the module since the start of the project funding in the last quarter of 2024: The aim is to integrate a third international university and thus additional cultural perspectives. The module can therefore continue to develop - accompanied by action research - as a future-oriented teaching and learning concept.

The intensive exchange culminated in a concrete expression of interest from several KAMK students to already apply for participation in this year's virtual part of the module, scheduled to start in just a few weeks. Preparations are currently underway at both KAMK and THM. “We will be truly delighted if this pleasant, professional and highly agile collaboration may soon enable students from the three participating universities - THM, ATU and KAMK - to learn, work and grow together in just a few weeks' time,” says Alexandra Hofmann.

Last but not least, on March 20, 2025, Finland was named the happiest country in the world for the eighth time, according to the World Happiness Report 2025. Alexandra Hofmann and Benjamin Löhr had the opportunity to personally experience one aspect of this deep contentment after the meetings on Lake Paltaniemi: A profound connection to Finland’s fascinating natural landscape.
