Study Contents
In the Master Digital and International Marketing you will learn how companies ...
best reach their target groups through tailored content and suitable channels,
make optimal use of digital technologies and platforms,
successfully work international markets,
use marketing, market research and analysis tools in a target-oriented manner and
how cultural differences affect effective brand management, sales and communication.
After a first joint bilingual semester, which covers central contents of international and digital marketing as well as market research and strategic management, you can choose between two specializations in the 2nd semester. All modules in the International Marketing major are taught in English; in the Digital Marketing major, German-language modules predominate in the 2nd semester.
The Master's thesis usually follows in the 3rd semester. If you have only studied six semesters in your Bachelor's degree, you need to first complete a semester abroad, a practical phase or additional modules and then write your thesis in the 4th semester. All other students also have this option on a voluntary basis.
In modules such as International Marketing Research or Social Media/Digital Marketing, our students work on extensive real-life projects in cooperation with great companies. In the past our students have successfully worked on projects with IKEA, Volksbank Mittelhessen, Hornbach, Lego, and many more.
Career Prospects
With the master's degree, you can pursue a career in a variety of functions and industries. Our graduates often work
in digital marketing (e.g. as digital marketing or social media manager),
in product and brand management (e.g. as brand manager),
in sales and business development (e.g. as a key account manager),
at internationally active companies (e.g. Cosnova, Ferrero, Fresenius, Samsung),
in e-commerce or for online and social media companies (e.g. mymuesli, TikTok, Westwing),
in marketing, advertising and media agencies (e.g. SYZYGY) and
for software and technology providers (e.g. SAP).

Semester Abroad and Internship
THM Business School is a member of a network of partner universities in Europe (e.g. UK, Denmark, France, Spain) and overseas (USA, Australia) and will do its best to provide you with an exciting study abroad experience. Our students also have the opportunity to earn a double degree at THM and Edinburgh Napier University.
Instead of a semester abroad, you can also do an internship of at least four months. Further information on formalities (e.g. documents to be submitted and internship report) can be obtained from Frau Feierabend.
Thesis
In your Master's thesis, you will work on current and practically relevant marketing and sales topics. The theses usually contain an empirical part and can be written in cooperation with a company. The high quality of the theses is also reflected in the fact that some work results have already been presented at international conferences (example 1: Markenaktivismus) or published in marketing journals (example 2: Influencer Marketing).
Current topics (in the "old" MSc. International Marketing) are e.g.
Storytelling in social media
Marketing in the metaverse
Sustainable consumer behavior
Diversity Marketing
Chatbots
... and much more!
You can find more information on the thesis and the thesis seminar in Moodle.

Lars (2. Semester, as of 2023): The contents of the program are throughout interesting, practical and truly useful. There is literally not one module I would consider useless or unnecessary. You really only learn the things relevant for becoming a successful digital and international marketing manager. You can easily tell that every single professor is not only extremely knowledgable but also very caring, friendly, and at all times approachable. This program gives you everything you need and I can only recommend it to anyone interested in the topic.
Vanessa (2. Semester, as of 2023): Studying the Master of Digital and International Marketing has been a truly remarkable experience. The program's emphasis on a diverse curriculum, international perspectives, and hands-on projects has exceeded my expectations. The modules, ranging from quantitative analysis to intercultural communication, prepare us perfectly for the challenges of the global business world. Engaging in eye-tracking technology, developing comprehensive social media campaigns for the Master's program, and conducting marketing research studies in cooperation with Volksbank Mittelhessen have provided invaluable insights and real-world experience. The focus on international marketing and cross-cultural consumer behaviour has been particularly fascinating, while the Marketing Simulation Game added an element of excitement and competitiveness. Overall, this program has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to thrive in the international marketing industry, and I am confident it will open doors to exciting career opportunities.
Lena (2. Semester, as of 2023): As the first semester progressed, I became more and more enthusiastic about the Master International Marketing. I have never experienced such a strong connection between theory and practice before. This is what makes the Master so special to me, because it gives you so many skills for your future career. The challenge of the English language turned out to be a great opportunity to consolidate my English and to be prepared to work in an international company. The whole environment of the Master's programme is very familiar, which I personally like very much.
Christian: The professors really animate you to participate and you can learn a lot just by attending the lectures and not only by mindlessly cramming knowledge into your head for tests. The professors are also very approachable. All in all, a greatly executed program.
Chiara: I discovered my preference for the subject through the lecture "Marketing" in the Bachelor. Since I plan to work in an international context, studying in English was important to me, as was the opportunity to spend a semester abroad. Furthermore, I have heard a lot of positive things about Giessen as a place to study :)
The program is diverse and offers modules from "Quantitative Analysis Methods" to "Leadership and Intercultural Communication" to "Change and Innovation Management" and thus perfectly prepares students for the start of their international working life and the challenges that come with it. Working with students from a wide variety of backgrounds allowed us to experience insights into different cultures, customs and traditions - both privately and in an educational context.
Benedikt: What I appreciated most about our studies have been the projects that gave us hands-on insights into many relevant marketing- and business-topics. For example, my team worked on a whole eye-tracking study for one of the biggest DIY superstore chains in Germany. This gave us practical insights that one only would get from a (big) consulting agency and is otherwise hard to find. Another project I really liked was managing the social media presence of the city of Wetzlar. Here, we created a complete campaign for a series of events lasting the summer of 2022 including social media posts, a blog, and advertising for events.
Erik: My favorite modules were especially those with an international context such as "International Marketing", "Leadership and Intercultural Communication" and "Cross Cultural Consumer Behaviour". In all these modules, the global interdependent economy was highlighted, which is essential in today's working world. Since cultural awareness also is crucial, it was particularly exciting for me to get insights from the marketing perspective. I also enjoyed the "Marketing Simulation Game". There, we had to adapt products to the needs of a virtual market in groups with our fellow students and introduce new products to new markets - fictitiously, of course. Here, the ambition of the respective groups to win the game grew relatively quickly, which only made it more exciting.
Elvari: My name is Elvari and I come from Indonesia, but I finished my Bachelor’s degree in Bremen. I chose this course because I am interested in marketing since an internship during my bachelor’s studies, and THM Giessen offers a major focusing on marketing specifically in full English.
The lectures offered are very interesting, challenging but doable. I need to put effort, but it feels effortless. Therefore, I think MAIM is the best option I have ever taken, although I did not know THM and Giessen before.
Honestly, Giessen is a small city compared to Bremen and I felt like I had very limited options to do during an Offline semester there. However, I got the motivation to stay during the semester from the courses, professors, and fun projects I could have. Moreover, I felt more confident and comfortable in classes during discussions or conversations than during my time in my bachelor’s studies because there are more international students, and the German students are nicer and more open to non-German students.
In conclusion, I believe that MAIM is perfect for someone who wants to pursue a career in marketing and sales because the projects and the knowledge we can get from the lectures are worthwhile to prepare us for our future career.
Mohamad (graduated 2021): I choose MAIM because of the English language and I learned a lot. I did my master thesis on the topic of marketing automation at a startup. This experience allowed me to get a job in the same field as a marketing automation manager at a B2B online marketing agency in Hamburg.
Eliana (graduated 2021): The familial atmosphere made me feel very comfortable at the Business School. The varied modules in my Master's programme not only conveyed theoretical knowledge, but also provided a deep insight into practice. My professors always had an open ear for the students' concerns and took their feedback on the study structure and content very seriously. Especially during the online semesters during the pandemic, the department always tried to adapt the organisation of the courses to the needs of the students as best as possible.
Nataliia (graduated 2021): MAIM Business School provided me with a solid background and an understanding of market research methods. This allowed me to quickly learn the complex methodologies used by Quantilope and offer the best research solutions to our clients. During my studies, I was particularly inspired by the open discussions about marketing and brand strategies, the solving of practical cases, as well as the simulation game, especially in Prof. Dr. Wannow’s and Prof. Dr. Freidank’s classes. These inputs and discussions greatly shaped my today’s solution-oriented way of thinking and I enjoy looking back at my time at THM.
Orianne (graduated 2022): The program offers a great opportunity to study in English, with students coming from different countries, and most importantly, you do not only learn the theory, but get also to know how to implement theoritical learnings into practice. One of my highlights was to conduct an international survey for the company ARDEX and present the results of our analysis to the company. Students who are looking for an international environment and practical learnings in Marketing, I highly recommend this study program.
Johannes (graduated 2022): Throughout my studies in the Bachelor's degree I discovered my interest and passion for Marketing. Hence, I've chosen the Master's Program International Marketing because I wanted to level up my skills and education in this field. I especially liked the practical tasks we students got, working together with companies on real-life projects. This experience transferred to the working environment and helped me there. After graduating, I immediately found a job as a Marketing Specialist in my desired industry, so that I can now apply what I have learned.
Linda (graduated 2022): My semesters abroad in Japan and Scotland taught me a lot about interacting with other cultures. At the same time, they also helped me to adapt better to situations and learn more about myself. As a result, I have become more resilient and self-confident. So, if you want to develop on a personal as well as professional level, I highly recommend a semester abroad. These are experiences that you will remember for the rest of your life. And with a little bit of luck, you'll go home at the end of your semester abroad with another home in your heart :)
Eliana (graduated 2021): My best experience was definitely my semester abroad in Bologna. Although the Department of Business had no direct Erasmus partner university in Italy, the International Office did everything to make my longed-for semester abroad in Italy possible (many thanks to Ms. Siebert at this point!). Since I didn't have the opportunity to do a semester abroad during my Bachelor's program, I was even happier that this could be realized so easily at the THM's Business School. I spent a great 6 months in my home country, met cool new people and had an unforgettable time there.
