Study in STEM

Engage in real-world sustainability challenges

The STEM master’s program is a transformative educational journey designed to develop both technical expertise and social responsibility. At its core lies the Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) approach, a cutting-edge didactic concept that sets this program apart from traditional academic paths. The STEM master prepares you to drive sustainable change in a world facing climate challenges, resource scarcity, and rapid urbanization.

1. Real-World Challenges: Transforming Theory into Action

1. Real-World Challenges: Transforming Theory into Action

In the STEM master’s program, you will actively engage with real-world challenges that matter.

The Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) approach empowers you to lead change rather than just understand it.

By working on real sustainability projects, you will develop essential skills such as critical thinking, teamwork, cross-disciplinary communication skills and adaptive problem-solving - abilities highly valued in the fast-evolving field of sustainability.

You and your peers will:

→ Analyze Complex Transformation Fields: Address open-ended sustainability challenges by breaking down complex issues to identify key factors and underlying causes.
→ Develop Innovative Solutions: Collaborate with partners from industry and society to develop and design practical solutions that address real needs.
→ Present and implement Your Ideas: Gain hands-on experience by applying your knowledge to real projects, presenting your solutions, and receiving constructive feedback from both academic mentors and stakeholders.
→ Create a Portfolio of Impact: Create a portfolio that demonstrates your ability to apply theory to practice, showing your skills in solving sustainability challenges with innovative approaches.

2. Inter- and Transdisciplinary Approach: Bridging Knowledge and Practice

2. Inter- and Transdisciplinary Approach: Bridging Knowledge and Practice

The STEM program breaks down traditional academic silos by integrating engineering, management, environmental sciences, and social impact. This comprehensive approach equips you to view sustainability from multiple perspectives, enabling holistic and innovative solutions.

  • Holistic Understanding: Learn how technical, economic, and social aspects intersect in sustainable transformation.

  • Collaborative Teamwork: Work alongside peers from diverse academic backgrounds to challenge assumptions and broaden your perspectives.

  • Expert Guidance: Benefit from a faculty team with interdisciplinary expertise, guiding you through the complexities of sustainability.

  • Practical Collaboration: Engage directly with partners from industry and society, solving real-world sustainability challenges that require multidisciplinary approaches.

  • Learning from Each Other: Develop a mindset of learning from each other and sharing knowledge within your teams, using insights from fields such as environmental science, engineering, business and management.

3. Global Perspectives: Connect, Learn, and Grow with a Diverse Community

3. Global Perspectives: Connect, Learn, and Grow with a Diverse Community

Sustainability challenges are inherently global. The STEM program immerses you in an international and multicultural learning environment, allowing you to develop a global mindset and cultural competence.

  • Study in English with students from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. Share and compare different approaches to sustainability for a richer learning experience.

  • Collaborate in Cross-Cultural Teams: Learn to work effectively in multicultural teams, preparing you to navigate global professional environments. Learn how to communicate effectively and collaborate with team members from various cultural contexts. Gain intercultural competence that prepares you for global professional settings.

  • Global Networking: Build lasting relationships with students, faculty and professionals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds, equipping you for a career that crosses continents and industries. Gain insights into how sustainability challenges differ across regions and develop solutions that are culturally and contextually relevant.

  • Broaden your Perspectives on sustainability challenges by engaging with different worldviews and contextualising solutions across regions and cultures, bringing diverse perspectives and experiences into classroom discussions.
  • Develop a Problem-Solving Mindset: Learn to approach challenges from a global perspective, recognizing the interconnectedness of sustainability issues. Engage with real-world projects that address global problems. Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are essential for handling transnational challenges.

We don’t just teach sustainability - we put it into action. This program is built around:

Work on projects in key sustainability transfomation fields such as:

  • Energy & Resource Management – Designing renewable energy systems and improving efficiency.

  • Sustainable Cities & Infrastructure – Developing smart, climate-resilient urban solutions.

  • Circular Economy & Sustainable Production – Creating waste-free, regenerative business models.

Through Challenge-Based Learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and global engagement, you gain a well-rounded skill set that prepares you to become a change-maker in diverse professional settings.
